Pathways:

Grades K-8

Complete curriculum-based work in classes defined in the National Standards and described in Geography for Life.

Participate in programs that nuture a strong background in geography such as Rand McNally's Minnesota Studies, Minnesota Historical Society's Northern Lights. Read magazines such as National Geographic, National Geographic's World, Natural History, and The Smithsonian.

Volunteer to participate in school, church, and community activities that emphasize an understanding of the nature of places.

Compete in school-level Geographic Bee, Geographers' Fair, and field trips as well as special programs to begin building a strong background in geography.

Pursue special interests that relate to the study of geography in the real world.

Grade 9

Begin work on graduation require- ments for Minnesota's High Standards in the Profile of Learning .
 
Plan to complete five High Standards as outlined below:

High Standard:

*People and Cultures

Grade 10

Work on assessment packages at the level of high standards.
 
Use resources available to plan for distinction in Geography.

Take the required exam in Geography (administered every November)  

Outline your project in applied geography.

Grade 11

Involve members of the community or area for your project.  

Access information and resources to complete your project.

Submit your project to the Center for Assessment in Geography (April 15th Deadline).
