Notable
Pics
Notable Pics, is a tool that allows K-16 teachers and students to use
their own photographs (or those which they have copyright permission)
as the basis of a web-based lesson. Once the teacher has uploaded a
photograph, the teacher can add facts to areas of the photograph to
direct the students' attention to pertinent details. The teacher can
then add instructions, content information and hyperlinks to create
the rest of the lesson.

Shock-ing
Geography
An interactive outline map site created by Daniel J. Pfeifer of Wake
Forest University. Students can quiz themselves on physical, current
political and some historical map information. Historical maps are so
far only for Europe 1763-1914, but physical and current political maps
cover most world areas. Instructors can have results of student self-quizzes
emailed to them. Requires Shockwave software (free download).

Using
Geography to Learn About History Grade Level 9-12
As students may already know, geographical factors have impacted the
course of history in many ways. When learning about historical topics,
it can be very helpful to simultaneously study a region's geography.
In this lesson, students will investigate how geography impacted daily
life, warfare, and trade in ancient Greece. They will use this information
to write statements to a school committee explaining how geography should
be incorporated into the history curriculum.
On
Line Map Creation
Here's a mapping site that allows students to use the input form to
create all kinds of maps right online! The best feature about this site
is that users can create maps using different projections, including
Mercator, equidistant cylindrical, polar stereographic, and orthographic.
The site goes into great descriptions and examples of each!
Virtual
Maps
This tour is designed to introduce Geography students to the basics
of maps and globes. You will look through various sites and answer questions
about maps and their qualities. Get some paper and a pencil, and start
clicking!
Great
Globe Gallery on the Web
Some popup advertisements appear at this site. Lots of examples of different
globe projections and other images. There are many topics displayed
on a globe format. Vegetation of the world, mountains of the world are
just a few simple topics.
